USRowing Youth Sportsmanship Award goes to…

Earlier this spring, nomination requests went out seeking rowing youth athletes that consistently embody the following qualities:

  • Teamwork – Recognizing individuals who contribute to a positive team environment, show adaptability, and uplift their teammates.
  • Integrity – Honoring those who demonstrate honesty and fairness in competition and practice on and off the water.
  • Leadership – Celebrating those who lead by example, show commitment, and inspire others through their work ethic.
  • Humility – Highlighting athletes who remain humble in victory and gracious in defeat while contributing to the team’s overall success on the water.

This regional award serves as a testament to the power of sportsmanship in fostering a strong, supportive, and respectful athletic community. The winner will be announced and receive their award at their respective USRowing Youth Regional Championships.

I cannot be more proud that Sophia, a rising senior and Captain of the Coventry Lake Community Rowing/Coventry High School Crew team was chosen as a recipient of this Award. Sophia has been a team leader far before becoming captain and is respected by her peers and coaches. She delivers unwavering integrity on and off the water and additionally has supported her teammates in events that she wasn't even competing in. Additionally, Sophia serves on this non-profit's Board of Directors as a Youth member and volunteers often for Learn-to-Row programs for both Middle-school-aged youth as well as our Seniors program in partnership with the Coventry Senior Center.

Sophia has an endless portfolio of reasons why she is deserving of this award. Please join us in celebrating her success!
