Some choices just hit different. On Thursday, a bunch of our youth crew decided that “day off” still meant “see you at the boathouse.” No pressure, no requirement—just kids who wanted to be there, showing up for each other and the water. That’s always been the balance for us: rowing hard, but making sure families have time to travel, rest, and just be together. The ones who couldn’t make it were missed (and we know they’ll be right back at it soon) - and we will expect travel stories upon return.
For those who were “hanging around,” they got an absolute gift—perfect weather, glassy water, and one of those days you wish you could bottle up.
And then… it got even better. A huge thank you to photographer Jessica Hill for spending the afternoon with us and capturing it all so beautifully. Seeing our kids, our lake, and this team spirit land on the cover of The Hartford Courant is something pretty special.
Proud of every kid who showed up, every kid who couldn’t, the adults counting down to getting back on the water, and the newbies who don’t even know yet what they’re about to fall in love with. We love this entire Coventry Lake Community Rowing family—this is what it’s all about. Season 2026… game on. PHOTO CREDIT: Jessica Hill/Special to the Courant
